All-New 2024 BMW i5, i5 Touring & 5 Series ANNOUNCED | Release Date

In just a few months’ time, the eighth generation of the BMW 5 Series Sedan will make its debut. The new model is more dynamic and more comfortable than ever and boasts a fresh interpretation of its signature elegantly sporting design, not to mention BMW Operating System 8.5 with BMW Curved Display, innovative digital services and, for the first time, a purely electric drive system in the guise of the BMW i5.

The flexible powertrain architecture means the new BMW 5 Series Sedan can be offered in all-electric and plug-in hybrid variants as well as powered by highly efficient petrol and diesel engines with 48V mild hybrid technology.

At the BMW Group Annual Conference 2023, Oliver Zipse, Chairman of the Board of Management of BMW AG, announced further details of the new BMW 5 Series model range, indicating that the 5 Series Sedan would also be made available as an all-electric BMW M Performance model. “The all-electric BMW i4 M50* shows how BMW blends dynamic performance and electric mobility to perfection,” said Zipse. “It was the best-selling BMW M model worldwide in 2022. A fully electric Performance model from BMW M GmbH will also be included in the new BMW 5 Series Sedan line-up.”

Zipse revealed that a new variant would also be added to the familiar choice of engines for the new BMW 5 Series Touring. “The BMW 5 Series Touring is very popular, particularly in Europe,” he remarked. “From spring 2024 it will also come in an all-electric version, giving us a truly unique selling point in this segment.”

The arrival of the BMW i5 Sedan in the premium executive segment, followed by the BMW i5 Touring in 2024, will see the BMW Group continue the systematic expansion of its all-electric offering.

The BMW Group already has all-electric cars and two-wheelers in the vast majority of the market segments it serves with the BMW, BMW Motorrad, MINI and Rolls-Royce brands. Customers can choose from an unrivalled variety of vehicles offering premium mobility with zero local emissions, ranging from the small and compact segments to midsize models and the luxury class.

The worldwide launch of the new BMW 5 Series Sedan will get underway in October 2023.

Lloyd Gross : I agree with Rolly but would prefer blackend oblong exhaust tips.....I drive a 2021, 540i and love the straight ahead performance.....but......BMW has overemphasized their information systems for the gadgeteers and computer freeks but have forgotten about ROAD HANDLING AND STEERING which made BMW the "Ultimate Driving Machine" in the first place and was something I have always aopreciated until about 10 years ago when they started driving like top of the -line Buicks.....sloppy steering and cornering even with the $3200 optional handling package which I bought.....How about an optional road package with sportier steering and cornering designed for those of us who were attracted to the brand in the first place ??? Get on it, BMW.
rolly doucet : I've been driving the 5 series for a few years, and will continue to buy them as long as they don't get out of touch. For starters, I'll never buy electric. I don't like the exhaust tips on the current rendering, I much prefer the "shotgun" style exhaust tips. Also, I don't care for the video-game instrument panel. The traditional dash featuring the gas guage, speedo, tachometer, and temperature guage is what I've been seeing in all the years I've driven BMW cars, and It's sad that they're getting away from that. Looking for new markets (buyers) is one thing, but forgetting the faithful, who have been buying BMW for years is a mistake.
Gofaone Mosalakatane : The only problem with me here is the combined cluster and the screen, the steering wheel they are not good looking for me
John Howard : Looks great. Ok…BEAUTIFUL! I would buy the touring to replace our old 3 series touring. Previously, we had multiple 5 series touring cars. Forced by BMW NA to buy a 3 series!
Jan X : Dream Car!

2023 BMW 5 Series - interior and Exterior Details (Executive Class Sedan)

Thanks: Auto Aktan

2023 BMW 5-series
Starting at $56.995

Highs Comfortable passenger accommodations, broad range of slick powertrains, tech gadgets galore.
Lows Some rivals offer more grandeur inside, most desirable features are pricey, driver involvement has fallen off the menu.
Verdict Those expecting sports sedan friskiness will be disappointed, but the 5-series is a comfortable and classy executive-class sedan.

Earlier generations of the BMW 5-series set benchmarks for sports-sedan road manners that we still refer to when evaluating ride and handling. But years before the 2023 5-series arrived this model moved on to a more comfort-focused mission. BMW’s executive sedan looks upscale without being ostentatious, and that stealthy appearance provides some respite from constabulary scrutiny. And that’s a good thing, especially if you order the turbocharged inline-six 540i or twin-turbo V-8 M550i models, which can hit 60 mph in 4.7 seconds and 3.5 seconds, respectively. Looking for a 5-series with a more relaxed personality? The entry-level 530i and plug-in hybrid 530e, both four-cylinder-powered, offer adequate punch and also the benefit of better fuel economy. No matter the trim, the 5-series offers plenty of space for passengers and a list of luxury and technology features that keep pace with rivals such as the Audi A6, Genesis G80, and Mercedes-Benz E-class. The fiver’s handling might not be the sharpest, but it can waft down the road as effortlessly as any mid-size luxury cruiser.

What's New for 2023?

The 5-series sedan carries over to the 2023 model year largely unchanged. The optional Premium package now includes a remote-start feature but no longer includes the company’s gimmicky gesture controls for the iDrive infotainment system. The Parking Assistance package is no longer available on 530i, 530e, and 540i models but the Executive package is now available for those cars and includes a head-up display, a Harman/Kardon stereo system, a power-operated trunk lid, and heated front seats among other items. The top-spec M550i now comes with a power rear sunshade. Three new colors—Artic Race Blue, Skyscraper Grey, and Aventurin—are now available.

Pricing and Which One to Buy
530i: $56,995
530e: $58,595
540i: $63,895
M550i: $82,495

The mid-range 540i continues to be the best value in the 5-series lineup, offering a nice balance of performance and comfort. This model comes standard with rear-wheel drive, but all-wheel drive is available. The available Convenience package seems like a wise add-on, as it includes heated front seats and a power-operated trunk lid.

Engine, Transmission, and Performance
Smooth, powerful, and efficient, both the four-cylinder in the 530i and the six-cylinder in the 540i motivate this big sedan with authority. The 540i's powertrain benefits from a little extra boost, care of a 48-volt hybrid system. Each engine pairs with an eight-speed automatic transmission that shifts intuitively and quickly, making the most of the available power. The 540i's six-cylinder is silky smooth and potent, and it makes delightful noises. Apart from the top-dog M5, which we review separately, the M550i is the athlete of the lineup, with a twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V-8 under its hood. In our testing, the M550i sprinted through our acceleration runs quicker than the Audi S6 and Mercedes-AMG E53, hitting 60 mph in just 4.1 seconds. All 5-series models are competent handlers, but they lack the kind of driving verve we expect from BMW. Steering feedback is light, and the ride—even in the performance-oriented M550i—appears to be tuned more for comfort than driver involvement.

Interior, Comfort, and Cargo

Rich appointments and good design make the cockpit of the 5-series a civilized space. It's a noticeable upgrade compared with the somewhat drab cabin of its predecessor. It's also spacious for rear-seat passengers and features an impressive amount of technology. We've experienced the optional 20-way multi-contour front seats, which adjust in every way imaginable and provide hours of comfort. The standard seats might not be as indulgent, but you can still adjust them in 16 ways. The BMW's large trunk space is on par with what its competitors offer, fitting six carry-on suitcases back there. That said, the cabin is lacking in cubbies and storage compartments. To accommodate the battery pack, the plug-in-hybrid 530e has four fewer cubic feet of trunk space than nonhybrid models and swallows two fewer carry-on suitcases, but at least it retains its folding rear seats, unlike many other hybrids.

zl1booker : Beautiful.... now why did bmw screw up the front end of the 2023 7 series so bad. Now this 5 series is classy
Luis Dreon Souza : Bmw é Bmw, não adianta. Show de carro
Pae Dahe : Covering the key fobs with Saran Wrap is a great idea. Manufacturers have been painting the fobs the same color as the car or brakes and fobs scratch very easy due to being put in pockets.
Nice car. I had the 22’ and they are top notch.
Enock Santos : Uau!
Carlos Alberto Melo : O meu carro, um 540i ano 2018 cor azul mediterrâneo é ainda mais bonito, não tenho dúvidas! Que bom que passados 5 snos ele ainda se encontre tão atual!
